The oak, plank top in three sections and faced with a solid moulded edge. The walnut, front fitted with four long drawers, decorated with veneered, cushion mouldings and divided by 'D' mouldings. The drawers, side run, oak lined and with replaced escutcheons and brasses and two locks removed and one replaced. The panelled sides, solid walnut. The oak back panelled. Standing on later stile feet. Excellent original colour and patina. English, first quarter of the 18th century. 11101573

This elegant chest of drawers is unusual having a walnut, moulded front, and the lower 'D' mouldings returning on the stiles. The cushion mouldings give the chest extra dimension and show the beauty of the veneers to full advantage, particularly as light hits the front in different directions. This chest has developed an exceptional mellow and soft patina over time. Although not original to the piece, the brassware is 18th century and has been on the chest for a long time and harmonized into the surface
