Signed J Denys 1908 Inscribed 'Chimere Antiqve.Mvsee dv Vatican' Fine crisp carving in deep relief. Made from two thick pieces of oak. Old hooks and hanging wire on reverse Comprises two boards the upper board is 27.5cm., 10 3/4 wide (or high as it is viewed) and the lower board 9cm., 3 1/2 in. (or high as it is viewed) Overall Measurements: Height 36.50 cm., 14.25 in., length 46 cm., 18.11 in.
Carved in relief from two boards which are 4.5cm thick 1 1/2 inches at their deepest point (top of wing, shoulder, rump) and the flat background has been reduced to 2.5cm., 1 in. This fine carving is inspired by a Chimera in the Vatican Museum. A winged lion is the logo of the Venetian Republic. All the photographs are taken in daylight apart from the first photograph
