Bowls and dishes decorated with variations of this design, which starts on the interior and flips over the rim to extend around the exterior, were made in China for many years beginning in the Ming Period. English copies vary in both design and material, and soft paste porcelain examples survive as well as those in tin-glazed earthenware.
