A small, early-18th century, oak gateleg with a fold over top
10536
The fold-over plank top in two sections and faced with a cleated edge and hinged. The frieze with a single, long drawer. Standing on elegant gun-barrel turned legs joined by square stretchers. Good original colour and patina. English, first quarter of the 18th century.
It is unusual to find surviving small, gateleg tables from this period, and this elegant table has a pretty, delicate, proportion. It is extremely versatile, taking up very little space with the top folded, and acting as a side or centre table with the top unfolded. The turnings on the legs are extremely slender giving the table its petite proportion.
