Armchairs, Pair, Flemish, 17th Century, Walnut, Upholstered, Bargello, Scrollarm
11867
This pair of open armchairs are characteristic of the Haute Époque employing elegant barley-twist turnings and sweeping, curved, scroll arms. The bargello is a re-creation of a fashionable upholstery textile of the time and the passmenterie has been custom made to complement this. Surviving pairs of armchairs are rare and these are a fine model in excellent condition with an exceptional patina. The rectangular outside and inside backs and the seats have been traditionally re-upholstered in a modern bargello in shades of gold, red, green, brown and ivory with custom made passmenterie. The refinely curved arms terminating in scroll carved ends. The arms supported by elegant baluster turned uprights. The front legs, upper, central and side stretchers display elegant baluster and ball turnings. The back legs straight. Excellent original color and patina. Arm Height 27.75 inches
