This design was found in the bridal chamber of a house in Lewes. The design was believed to be a wedding gift painted by the Bishop of Chichester's artist. Bridal chambers were often decorated as gifts and the designs were laden with symbolism for example a pink carnation was symbolic of purity and a red rose of the Virgin Mary.
