The uprights are carved with acanthus leaf decoration at the tops. The shaped backs have carved, central, flowerheads surrounded by stylised scrollwork above an arcaded balustrade, with scrollwork below. The rectangular arms are supported by rectangular legs and side stretchers. The seats are solid and bear labels on the back from Banca Popolare di Novara & Banca Sannitica. The front stretchers are shaped and decorated with scrollwork. Excellent original colour and patina.

These chairs are quite charming and the arcaded balustrade is very unusual and gives them gravitas. They are striking when grouped together either standing against the walls of a room or arranged around a table.
