The scroll shaped cresting rail with a central cartouche containing fleur-de-lys. The turned uprights with carved stylised flowers on the upper blocks surmounted by a finial. The central section of the back is upholstered in an old crimson velvet surrounded by a carved splat with fleur-de-lys, scrollwork and acanthus leaves. The scroll chaped arms are carved with stylised acanthus leaf decoration. The rectangular seat is supported by turned legs, tapering at the front faceted turnings and mushroom cappings, and simply turned at the back joined by an 'x'stretcher with central finial. The back of the central splat is supported by a carved section to reinforce it. This was probably added in the 19th century and is beautifully carved. Excellent original colour and patina.
