Extremely rare survival of a 17th century vernacular iron wall sconce Unusually incorporating a hood to protect against fire and reflect the heat back into the room so it does not rise The backplate reflects light in the interior In original condition with a wonderful crusty patina.

Surmounted by a hood. The shaped backplated pierced for hanging. The diameter of the candle holder demonstrates the size of candles at the time. Height 25cm., 10" Width 10cm 4" Depth 9cm., 3 1/2".
