Credenza Sideboard Cupboard Walnut Italian Bologna Brass Studwork Renaissance
11359
This is a fine example of a Renaissance period credenza or sideboard that would have been made for an Italian Palazzo. The shaped moulded panels and brass studwork ornamentation are typical decorative features from Bologna. This credenza is a striking, statement piece without being overpowering as the brass embellishment complements the warm tones of the walnut. It is very practical providing ample storage and serving or display space on the top.
The top in two sections with a dentil moulded edge. The front fitted with two long drawers either side of a short central drawer. The cupboard below with two doors, surrounded by three similarly decorated panels, opening to reveal a fitted shelf. The drawers and doors all with shaped moulded panels, brass handles and studs which are characteristic of Bologna in the Emilia-Romana region of Northern Italy. Standing on three scroll feet with carved flowerhead ornamentation. Exceptional original rich color and lustrous patina.
